Marco's Favorite

This is my second time eating from here. I ordered Marco's favorite & platanos fritos, which comes with black beans, salsa & another item I forgot to dip it in. The meat is always tender, flavors are so explosive & the portion sizes are perfect ! Not just that but the inside of the restaurant is so beautifully decorated and the staff are very friendly and eager to inform you on the food & their culture. I definitely recommend them !

Hilachas (Guatemalan beef stew)

I'll get right to the point. My wife and I had gone to Guatemala a few times just to eat, that's how much we appreciate Guatemalan food, now we don't have to after finding Selvin's. There are a couple of Guatemalan restaurants in the Dallas area but none that I know like Selvin's. To start the food is delicious and very traditional, it brought memories from my childhood. I had the "Hilachas" served with "Pishtones"(Fat corn HAND MADE tortillas) The place is very clean and elegant, the ambiance is awesome, very classy, and with a Family oriented atmosphere. The service is impressive, Evelyn was great, and we had several other servers asking us if we needed anything if our waitress was busy with other clients. Desayuno Chapin

The absolute mirror image of waking up in Zacapa. Never before in the 30 years I have lived outside Guatemala had I tasted something so authentic. The thing about Guatemalan cuisine is that it relies more on technique than strong spices. A good maleta de frijoles negros, a perfectly round tortilla, the smell of a good cup of coffee brewed using cotton cloth. If you are missing home or you simply want to try something above and beyond Tex Mex run to Selvin's start with the pepian, try the churrasco don't miss out on the fried plantains

Chicharrones (Fried Pork)

Delicious, chicharrones and the yuca cooked perfectly. Makes my mouth water when I think of this dish!

Horchata

Oh my! This is the most refreshing iced summer drink! Cold rice-milk infused with cinnamon and vanilla! Amazing! I had the Camarones a la Crema for dinner - sauteed in a spicy Guatemalan cream sauce on a mound of rice with fresh vegetables! The shrimp were tender and the sauce just spicy enough! I also had the Plantain Poppers for an appetizer! Amazing! If you like plantains you HAVE to try the Plantains stuffed with jalapenos and wrapped in crisp bacon and fried! I can't wait to go back and try everything in their extensive menu which includes Guatemalan and El Salvadoran recipes that are authentic and perfectly prepared. The restaurant boasts a wall-sized mural of Antigua , painted by a local artist, which provides the perfect ambience for the dining experience. The young couple who own Selvin's are from Guatemala and El Salvador and are cheerfully present and ready to make your visit one you will want to repeat!

Empanadas

We stopped last night and we actually arrived after their business hours. There was a man playing an electric acoustic guitar and singing setting a great ambiance. The owner greeted us and told us to come on in and have a seat. She would be happy to help us. I had the Pupusa Plate and my girlfriend had the Empanadas. We did take the order to go, but they were more than happy to host us there. The food was so delicious. And the portions were more than ample. I'm having a portion of the pupusa for breakfast this morning. The host, I think possibly the owner, was very gracious and attentive. The chef (I think the host spouse and co owner) came out and greeted the guests. Which I've always considered a fantastic customer service indication. I also had the tamarindo drink while there and it was ideal. I am so glad we finally stopped. We will definitely be back. 5 star service and care, 5 star cuisine.
